This workshop is part of the series of Advanced Grower Topics that will be conducted across the state by The Texas AgriLife Extension Viticulture Team. These workshops are designed to give participants an in-depth look at specific vineyard management issues. These workshops target experienced winegrape growers, but new growers can also benefit from the information.
This Advanced Grower Workshop will focus on BOT canker and other fungal wood pathogens of grapevine and the Re-training of Cordons. Grapevine Dieback from fungal wood pathogens is common in older vineyards of at least 7-8 years of age. The good news with this deadly complex of diseases is that vines can be re-trained to increase the lifespan of a vineyard. Identification of visual symptoms in the field, pruning techniques, steps to re-train cordons and actions growers can take to limit incidence and spread of the pathogens will be covered.
Instructors will be Penny Adams, Hill Country Viticulture Advisor and Fran Pontasch, North Texas Viticulture Advisor. Come prepared to work in vineyard weather conditions.
For more information about this workshop, please contact Penny Adams at 830-997-7047 (office), 830-708-8050 (cell) or by email.
If a cancellation becomes necessary, please send notification to agrilifevents@ag.tamu.edu. Cancellations received before December 3 will receive a refund, minus a 7% administrative fee. No refunds will be given for cancellations received after December 3.
